Welcome! Wilkommen!

About Us

Welcome to Radio Espionage! We are a numbers station and shortwave radio related logging and information site  maintained by Richard S. Wilde from Germany and Mary Johnson from Canada. We are not here to compete with other sites that may exist, this started out as our own space to document and research shortwave phenomena wishing to do so independently and neutrally. However, we welcome everyone interested to contribute and learn without fear!

If you wish to contact us or submit information, please note:

How we reply

Since we live in different countries and time zones it may sometimes take time for one of us to get back to you. We typically try to indicate which one of us replies, though sometimes both may reply with different input or additional information. We ask for you to send your submissions and inquiries in English, as it is the language we commonly understand. Please keep in mind we are only human. If we make a mistake or don’t reply to you please let us know politely.

Recordings submissions

When submitting attached recordings please send your emails with the subject Recording(s) of [Station ID/Noise ID/Oddity] and try to provide as much information as you can in the email body – such as the date, time, frequency, and other information. These recordings MUST BE YOUR OWN. If you submit recordings without permission or stolen from another source you will be blacklisted by administrators and barred from submitting in the future. By submitting to us, it will be implied that we are allowed to use the recording(s) on our website. If you have submitted anything in the past and with to remove it please see takedown requests.

Information submissions

When submitting information it isn’t much different from submitting recordings. Please sent your emails with the subject Information on [Station ID/Noise ID/Oddity] and provide the information in the email body. Information sent MUST BE YOUR OWN or CITED. Plagiarism is taken seriously and doing such will lead to you being blacklisted and barred from submitting in the future. By submitting to us, it will be implied that we are allowed to use the information on our website. If you have submitted anything in the past and with to remove it please see takedown requests.

In the future we will be creating a list of needed information and what you can do to help. This will be listed by rarity and there will possibly be an incentive/reward for those contributions.

Asking us to help identify a station

Heard something on the bands and not sure what it is? We will be glad to help! When sending a request for an ID by us please send your email with the subject [Numbers Station/Oddity] Identification Request. When sending a request we would prefer if you have made a recording of what you found attached to your email, as well as having as much information about it as you can [frequency, date, time, etc]. This would be the easiest way for us to identify what you heard. If you DO NOT have a recording please try to describe it in detail, such as its voice’s gender [if it had one], the structure of the station [if it has one], the language [if it has one], and what it sounded like along with the information we ask for with recordings if you can. Please keep in mind we may not have the information. If we do it may take some time for one of us to get back to you.

Takedown requests

  • General Takedowns

If you have submitted something to us and wish to have it taken down please email us with the subject Takedown Request and indicate what recording(s) or information you have contributed in the body. We will do so as soon as we can.

  • Copyright Takedowns

We take copyright very seriously. If you believe we have added something that belongs to you without credit/source or without permission please send us an email with the subject Copyright Notice. When sending such you will need proof of ownership of what you are asking to be removed. If we find you have given us enough evidence of copyright violation we will remove the violation as soon as we can (and blacklist whoever submitted malicious information to us).
